Clean Sweep for First Bank of Berne Indiana's #1 Bank All four quarters '09

February 18, 2010

Berne, IN- First Bank of Berne was ranked the #1 best performing bank in the state of Indiana for all four quarters of 2009. This is an extraordinary achievement for a bank to attain over just one quarter of the year, but to sweep all four quarters is a true mark of distinction.

The Indiana Bank Performance Report is a study and analysis completed by Financial Management Consulting Group. Research results proved that First Bank of Berne earned the #1 rating.

The quarterly report analyzes the 104 Indiana banks on nine various financial factors such as interest margin, efficiency, asset quality (loans) and profits. First Bank of Berne had the best overall average ranking for all four quarters in 2009, after having held the honor for the second quarter in 2008.

In spite of the tough economy, First Bank of Berne continued to do very well throughout 2009, with a record profit year. "We have very loyal employees and customers who are deep rooted and know the meaning of safe, secure, and trustworthiness, and how important these qualities are during hard times. We don't have goals of becoming the largest bank in the state or the most profitable, but we always have been a very strong, stable, and efficient bank," said Charles Isch, First Bank of Berne president. To achieve the top overall performance ranking among all banks in the state multiple times is very rare. Not many banks during tough economic times are committed to such superior performance.

With assets of over $415 million, First Bank of Berne operates a total of eight offices in Berne, Decatur, Bluffton, Portland, IN and Van Wert, OH.
