As people seek to file their tax returns this year, cybercriminals will be busy trying to take advantage of this with a variety of scams. Citizens may learn they are victims only after having a legitimate tax return rejected because scammers already fraudulently filed taxes in their name. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), there was a 60% increase in 2018 in phishing scams that tried to steal money or tax data.

First Bank of Berne recently made a generous donation of $6,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Adams County for their 2018 campaign. These funds will benefit the clubs in both Berne and Decatur. First Bank of Berne made a donation earlier this year to the Adams County Community Foundation in the amount of $1,000 to be used for two South Adams Scholarships. The ACCF manages, organizes and maintains oversight of over 250 funds and each year more than 250 students are awarded scholarships.
