First Bank of Berne was recently honored by the Wells County Chamber of Commerce at their annual awards banquet on Monday, January 30th. Chris Frauhiger of Bi-County Services presented the Business of the Year award to Kody Kumfer, First Bank of Berne Agribusiness Banker who accepted the award on behalf of the bank. Frauhiger gave a brief history of the bank and noted that their Bluffton office opened in 1999 on the property where the former Dutch Mill restaurant was located. At the Bluffton branch open house they honored the Dutch Mill by serving their famous sugar cream pie. Kumfer said the bank is grateful to be honored by this award, and they enjoy the communities in which they are involved. He mentioned 11 boards or committees that bank employees serve on as well as recognized the many causes they support with donations. “We believe in the value of people,” Kumfer added.
